Silene capensis (Silene undulata, African dream root) is a plant native to the Eastern Cape of South Africa. Traditionally used by the indigenous Xhosa people. The Xhosa call it Undlela zimhlophe (translated as white roads or white paths).
Silene Capensis Effects
The roots are traditionally used to induce vivid (and according to the Xhosa, prophetic) lucid dreams. Relatively small amounts of root (250-300 mg range) are reported to be active. The plant exerts only minimal changes in waking consciousness, yet the effects on the dream state can be profound. Dreams acquire "color" and breath.
Uses of Silene capensis
A suitable amount of Silene capensis for inducing vivid, lucid dreams is about 200 to 250 mg of powdered root. There are several methods of preparing S. capensis for consumption. The first is mixing half a teaspoon of the dried root powder with half a cup of water. The mixture should be consumed early in the morning, before breakfast. Once you feel hungry, you can eat normally. The second method is to mix a heaping tablespoon with two cups of water and stir until foamy. Keep consuming this foam until you feel the spirit of the plant and then go to sleep.
Caution
Small amounts over several days will affect even the "hardheads", so you don't need to take a large amount. Higher amounts may cause vomiting and nausea.
