O Μπλε Λωτός χρησιμοποιούνταν σε τελετουργικά πλαίσια από τους πολιτισμούς της Αρχαίας Αιγύπτου. Για τους Αρχαίους Αιγύπτιους ήταν ένα φυτό με βαθιά συμβολική σημασία – το είχαν συνδέσει με την ανατολή και τη δύση του ηλίου, με το θεό ήλιο και την ιστορία της δημιουργίας του κόσμου.
When Pharaoh Tutankhamun's tomb was opened, archaeologists discovered Blue Lotus flowers that had been left all over his body. These flowers were originally thought to have a purely symbolic meaning, but evidence from various researches indicates that the Egyptians used them to enter transcendental states of euphoria and visions, possibly in combination with other plants.
The Egyptians used to smoke N.Caerulea flowers or powdered extracts. But much more famous is another practice of using it. The flowers were soaked in wine for a period of at least 2 weeks. Then the drink was strained to leave only the liquid. The end result was a special aphrodisiac wine that is known to this day. Others used to first boil the leaves for hours – then strain off the water and mix it with the plant's powdered flowers. When the water evaporated, they were left with a powdered plant extract like the one we have. They then steeped the extract in wine as they would with the leaves, "smashed" it into smaller amounts in tea, or smoked it.
The Ancient Egyptians used the Blue Lotus flowers to enter a phase of introspection-meditation with sexual overtones. They believed its use was essential to maintaining good health and used it to enhance memory, relieve pain and improve blood circulation.

Ένα γραμμάριο του εκχυλίσματος ισούται περίπου με ~100 γραμμάρια φρέσκων ανθών (ή με ~10 γραμμάρια αποξηραμένων ανθών) του N.Caerulea. Στη σύγχρονη εποχή, στην Ταιλάνδη και σε άλλες περιοχές του κόσμου, ανατολικού και δυτικού, οι άνθρωποι συνηθίζουν να διαλύουν 0,5-1 γραμμάριο του εκχυλίσματος σε νερό. Το συνδυάζουν με τσάι πασιφλώρας, μελισσόχορτου, kanna, με άλλα χαλαρωτικά βότανα.
Άλλοι το συνδυάζουν με αλκοόλ αναφέροντας ανεκδοτολογικά αξιόλογα αποτελέσματα. Υπάρχουν πολλές αναφορές για τη συνέργεια του μπλε “λωτού” με το αλκοόλ.
Οι ρητίνες του βοτάνου συχνά χρησιμοποιούνται σε DIY βοτανολογικά blends καπνίσματος. Άλλοι επιλέγουν να χρησιμοποιούν τις ρητίνες περισσότερο εκλεπτυσμένα ατμίζοντας τες με atomizers όπως ο SAI Airtop χρησιμοποιώντας 0.2-0.5 γραμμάρια / ατμιστικό session.
