Ο σπόρος βλασταίνει καλύτερα σε ζεστό, αμμώδες μέσο. Ρίξτε τους σπόρους σε επιφάνεια πολύ αμμώδους χώματος γλάστρας (50% άμμος) και καλύπτετε σε βάθος 2,5 εκατοστών τοποθετώντας επιπλέον χώμα. Διατηρείται ομοιόμορφα υγρό το χώμα μέχρι τη βλάστηση, η οποία στο θερμοκήπιο ή κάτω από τα φώτα πολλαπλασιασμού απαιτεί την πάροδο 10-30 ημερών. Εάν προσπαθείτε να το κάνετε αυτό έξω στον κήπο, θα χρειαστεί περισσότερος χρόνος, καθώς οι κρύες νύχτες παρατείνουν τους χρόνους βλάστησης των σπόρων.
Η φύτευση απευθείας στον κήπο είναι δεν συνιστάται. Βασικά θέλετε να διαθέτετε όσο το δυνατόν περισσότερο έλεγχο της διαδικασίας επειδή τα σπορόφυτα είναι μικρά και πρέπει να τα δουλέψετε μέχρι τα 10 εκατοστά περίπου για να μπορέσουν να επιβιώσουν στις δυσκολίες της μεταμόσχευσης και της ανάπτυξης σε εξωτερικούς χώρους. Μετά τη βλάστηση των σπόρων, σταματήστε το πότισμα γιατί τα νεαρά σπορόφυτα μπορούν εύκολα να υπερενυδατωθούν – η Ephedra sinica είναι φυτό της ερήμου. Πολλοί καλλιεργητές επιλέγουν να καλλιεργούν τα φυτά σε σάπια φύλλα με άμμο πάχους περίπου 10 εκατοστώνκ, στον ήλιο, με μέτριο πότισμα.
