Pharmacology — Simply Explained

The signal and its strength. Nerve cells release chemical messengers as they communicate. In several experimental preparations, (−)-BPAP increased release linked to nerve-cell stimulation. This is the basis of the term activity enhancer used in the literature.

More than one mechanism. A separate cell study also found effects on the transporters that take dopamine and noradrenaline back into cells, with weaker effects on serotonin uptake. More recent rat-tissue work proposes involvement of the TAAR1 receptor and its interaction with dopamine signalling.
